At the Center for Women’s Health we believe that all women should have access to the best prenatal care available. We cater specifically to women’s healthcare needs. We believe in making women active participants in their health care. We offer women choices concerning their care during pregnancy. All our practitioners are highly trained and certified by their respective national organizations.
Many women choose to have a Certified Nurse Midwife provide their obstetric care. We have 3 Certified Nurse Midwives on staff who share the patient care and on call duties. We also offer obstetric care provided by Stewart Abbot, M.D. and Michael Plotnick, M.D. both board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Women with low risk pregnancies may choose either physician or midwife care. High risk pregnancies may be co-managed by midwives and the physician. In some high risk situations care will be provided either by Dr. Abbot or Dr. Plotnick. In case of emergencies, midwives have backup by physicians at all times.
The practitioners at the Center for Women’s Health delivered over 422 babies last year. We concentrate on providing a family-centered birth experience. Pregnancy is a unique event and we help the patient to consider all her options for labor and delivery. We believe that pregnancy and labor are natural functions of a woman’s body and will not intervene in that process unless a woman’s or baby’s health is threatened. We have a c-section rate well below the national average.
